Americold recently partnered with Feed the Children to fight childhood hunger and provide toys to vulnerable children across the US.

The official partnership kicked off with an employee campaign and a corporate donation drive, from which Americold said it raised $140,000 to help provide meals for thousands of hungry children.

During the months of March and April, Americold also challenged its associates to support a toy and game drive called March Gladness. Americold’s North American sites participated in this initiative to spread joy to children living below the poverty line, as well as support the development of young children and promote the importance of playtime.

At the end of the campaign, employees donated more than 7,300 toys and bicycles for children, valued at approximately $75,000, Americold said.

“We’re excited about the future of our partnership with Feed the Children,” said Fred Boehler, president and CEO of Americold. “Since Americold manages more than 1 trillion food products every year, we are very passionate about aligning our business with our commitment to corporate social responsibility in a meaningful way.

“Our associates care deeply about the communities in which they live and work. By naming Feed the Children as our official charity partner, we are joining the fight against childhood hunger and providing resources to local communities across the US.”

In addition to the funds raised by its associates, Americold committed to hosting multiple Feed the Children Backpack Build events to support local students in Title I schools. All backpacks will feature items such as notebooks, pens, folders and other school supplies. These supplies will support at-risk students across America.

The two organizations also will host a community distribution event where hundreds of local families will receive a 25-pound box of food; a 10-pound box of essentials such as shampoo, conditioner, lotion and personal-care items, along with additional items such as children’s books.

“Feed the Children is proud to partner with Americold to help create a world where no child goes to bed hungry,” said Travis Arnold, Feed the Children president and CEO. “We know that when we combine our efforts we will have a greater impact on the lives of families who need us most—right here in America. Together, we can help provide children and families with the essentials they need to flourish and break the cycle of poverty.”
