Emergent Cold, a market leader in Australian temperature-controlled storage with headquarters in Dallas TX, and Melbourne, Australia-based Oxford Cold Storage recently signed an agreement under which Emergent will acquire Oxford.

The companies said this acquisition, which is subject to regulatory approval, complements the broader Emergent Cold strategy of creating a global network of cold chain businesses, and expanding its presence in the Asia Pacific region.

“We look forward to welcoming the Oxford Cold Storage team to the Emergent Cold network,” said Neal Rider, CEO of Emergent Cold. “Combining Oxford with our platform will further strengthen our offering to the Australian and International market.”

Emergent Cold was founded in 2017 with the goal of becoming a leading global cold chain services partner for its customers. Emergent has grown through a combination of business acquisitions and new greenfield developments, and now has a network of 42 cold stores in five countries.

The Fleiszig and the Stern families established Cambridge Poultry Distributors in 1951 in South Yarra. Twenty years later, they relocated their operations across Melbourne to be closer to the meat hub in North Laverton. In 1975, they established Oxford to serve the neighboring meat producers. Oxford has been family owned and operated for 44 years.

The acquisition adds Oxford’s 60-acre operation in the Melbourne suburb of Laverton North.

“This is a very exciting time for the Oxford business,” said Paul Fleiszig, Oxford’s operations and marketing director. “The Emergent acquisition provides our staff with increased opportunities and career development. It will also provide for the opportunity to service clients across Emergent’s substantial geographical footprint and to increase our service offerings.

“The Fleiszig and Stern families wish to acknowledge and thank Oxford’s loyal and talented staff for their substantial contribution to the Oxford success story and for helping to create an enviable work culture.”
